No. [ he at least manages to sound apologetic about it, though it's obvious he's ... definitely mad at himself for it? dick is smart but his player isn't ] I know we must've missed an obvious clue, but... I don't know what. The only thing I know for sure is that it had to be someone from Shadows' team, because of those items. But that doesn't exactly narrow things down.
["dick is smart but his player isn't" I'm crying, if that ain't a mood. But Yasusada sits down next to him, drawing his knees up. He probably still has his Souji doll? Awful]
[ he looks at the doll for a second before shaking his head. ]
The rewards for completing tasks people get on Sunday. The winners get stuff that... seems to be helpful if one where to play the competition properly.
[ aka murder stuff ]
Shadows is the only team that's won so far, from what I know.
[ he shrugs a little, staring at the fire himself ]
They were discussing it during trial, though they wouldn't name it outright. Probably scared of outing people. [ ... he turns to look at yams with a small frown ] It's safer not to tell people your team generally, but for the sake of having someone who can vouch for you-- you should tell one person you trust. It doesn't have to be everything, but it's... part accountability, part safety in case you're wrongfully accused.
[ because he heard that, in trial, and he'd rather yams not be next on their hitlist. ]
[Yasusada nods. He tries his best to keep up, he really does, but it's difficult--he wasn't forged to solve murders, and so many of these... situations... involve items he's never seen or skills he can't understand. IT'S A HARD LIFE, BEING A POMPOM.]
You're right. [To his credit, he hasn't kept totally silent, but--it's fair.] I'll try to be careful.
[ i nearly wrote monday i am so tired. anyway, dick was looking for yasusada, and while he doesn't expect to find him in the forest, he also isn't that surprised about it...? he can't exactly greet him verbally, but he does raise a hand to show he's here to see him
[He's curled up by a tree, easy enough to spot in his light blue haori. He's got his knees drawn up, his chin on them, his sword (still lacking a sheath) resting on the ground within reach.
There's one, maybe two people left alive who'd get a lukewarm greeting from him at best. So Dick just gets a glare, but at least Yasusada doesn't start brandishing his sword at him immediately?? Maybe he's saving his energy for tomorrow.]
[ hmm... dick stands somewhere near yasusada, taking out a purple tablet with inappropriately cute bunny and heart stickers on it, typing out some words because he has no tongue and he must talk: ]
I won't ask if you're okay, but I just wanted to check up on you. You didn't injure yourself again, did you?
My arm still isn't healed. [And according to Dick, it won't be anytime soon.] And if we can't catch any of the killers, they'll pick me.
[It's what happened last time. He'd lost someone close to him, had been even closer to losing the person he cared about the most. He'd lost control of his emotions, and died for it. He'd tried so, so hard not to do that this time, and for what? He'd stayed his hand for Okita back in the castle, and for what?
Some part of him, the small part that isn't wracked with devastation, can sense that Dick is--trying. Much like Stephanie, he doesn't think Dick would've killed Sanji either. So, finally, even though his voice is just as sullen as its been--]
[ alright. that's a lot to unpack. dick sits down where he is, legs crossed, so he can look at yams eye to eye ]
I'm glad you didn't. [ first off, important. ] But you won't get scapegoated. I won't let that happen. Sanji would kick my ass if anything happened to you.
[ again, he can't inflect, but he hopes he looks sincere enough, despite the joke. because he is. ]
[And Sanji couldn't save him then, either. In fairness, they hadn't been that close then. But Sanji hadn't voted for him, had come to see him in the dungeon. And he'd looked after Okita, when Yasusada was gone.
He meets Dick's gaze for a long moment. There's pain there, and some anger, still, but also resignation.]
..Dick-san, I-- [He hesitates. This is... normally something he would've mentioned to Sanji, but that's no longer an option.] There's-- I don't know who else to tell.
[He knows himself. There's no one left alive that he trusts enough to seek out, when he's like this. And if Dick is here, then he might as well be upfront about it. It'll come out tomorrow anyway, and while Yasusada no longer cares how suspicious he looks, he doesn't want to be distracted from finding Sanji's killer.]
I woke up with a strange mark. Right here. [He lifts his good hand, pressing it to the center of his chest.] And I felt--guilt? I don't know why.
[IN JAIL!!! This jail is better for sad pompom swords than the Grimm dungeon was, so that's good. He'll hesitate for a minute, but he puts the Okita doll in his lap before he reaches out to take the water bottle.]
Thank you, Dick-san. [...] I'm sorry about yesterday.
[He'd had his reasons for bringing up the injury. Dick can probably guess what they are, but he'll be honest, if he's asked.]
[Yeah thanks for NOT EVEN PRETENDING IT COULD HAVE BEEN LILI GUYS god. But it was not in fact Lili so it's fine. He doesn't like how quickly they all jump to conclusions in general, but. Again, that's no longer for him to be concerned about.
But he'll explain.]
Sanji-kun and I met after the trial, to talk over things more. He liked Tomioka-kun, and I was frustrated. [A sword who couldn't even solve a sword crime; they'd both been feeling very strung out.] We talked over the evidence again, and we figured out that it had to have been someone bigger than Tomioka-kun. Someone strong enough to throw him through the window, and to get his sword away from him. When we took everything into account, it was only them.
[And in truth, he wasn't exactly positive, but--] Yu-kun had a dagger on him, and Tomioka-kun had cuts on his side. And Yu-kun was strong enough to hold his own against me, even when I was upset on Sunday.
... Was that all of it? Because considering powers and items, that doesn't disqualify everyone. There's a few objects that grant strength. I have one of them.
[ he doesn't know whether Yin Yu or Magnus did it, but those seem a bit too weak to immediately go for murder. ]
Sanji-kun told me Magnus's ability. [Which he will not doxx, if Dick doesn't already know it, because he doesn't want other people getting hurt. Also it probably would have changed Yasusada's target BUT MURDER PROPOSALS ARE DUE ON TUESDAY c'est la vie.] You're right, there's too much for us to have been certain. But we did what we could with what we had.
...And if it was between the two of them--I like Yu-kun. [For what that's worth.] I wanted to grant him a swift, honorable death. Even if he'd been guilty, no one deserves to go through something like what happened last week.
[It's not justice. He'd had to lie to Dick, but he told as much truth as he could about his own feelings.]

Hey, Yasusada. Everything alright?

[He wasn't even close to Guy, but it doesn't feel good, to vote for someone incorrectly.]
...I was wondering if you had any suspicions, about today.
[Any idea of what to do with the evidence they found, because Dick is smart, and Yasusada is... good at causing murder, not solving it.]

Then, you know someone on that team? I... haven't really spoken to anyone about it.
