["If this goes on longer", wow, what an awful thought. Yasusada was trapped for eight full weeks at the castle, though, even if he spent five of them dead, so he's fully expecting that there's more to come. He's not cynical, but he's more of a realist than most would assume, given how strongly he clings to denial and daydreams when it comes to things he absolutely can't accept.
That last statement has him tilting his head a little, though.]
[ giyuu takes a moment to consider yams' answer. ]
I would have thought someone would have stepped in.
[ you know? since minako stepped in between the fight between hikage and shinobu.
were things different between the two of them compared to him and ogata? giyuu's bad at this sort of thing and maybe yams isn't the person (sword) to go to for this sort of thing, but there's nothing wrong with having one person's (sword's) opinion. ]
[Oh. WELL the real explanation Giyuu is looking for here is probably that two swords and a pirate are not the best babysitters for fights, but you know what, it's fine.
Still, Yasusada looks more thoughtful than one might expect from him, perhaps, sorting through his thoughts in his head.]
...in the Shinsengumi, personal fights were forbidden. [He says, eventually.] People still got into fights anyway, of course. Isn't it difficult to ask that of so many people? But you could be ordered to commit seppuku, if it was serious enough.
I'm not human, so I can't say I understand perfectly, but... I don't think it was really about the fights. I think it was more about... anything that disrupted our unity, or clashed with our purpose.
[So, like. In his mind, what Ogata did is worse than what Giyuu did. Which is probably just further evidence that he doesn't have human morals, but, y'know. He's never made that a secret.
[ oh. shinsengumi. .....suddenly things start to fall into place far more quickly than they had before. does giyuu question the fact that yams came forward to say that he wasn't human? no. there are all from all sorts of places so, you know, giyuu just accepts a certain amount of things. ]
The demons slayer corpse had similar rules. We were also not allowed to have personal fights against one another or get in the way of someone trying to slay a demon. Of course, those applied to our missions the most.
[ did you know? giyuu has broken these two very rules?? ...if not others. it's totally fine?? giyuu seems like he's straight-laced until you realize that he'll break the rules when his morals are challenged. ]
We are dead. [ ... ] And our wounds heal instantly.
[GIYUU COMES FROM A WORLD WITH DEMONS OKAY it's fine. This is why Yasusada now fully believes that Giyuu totally understands that he's a tsukumogami and won't offer any further explanations. Terrible.
But look, it's fine. Giyuu's allowed to sound disappointed!! Ogata was a butt and deserved every bit of it.]
At the castle, I helped Dazai-kun--not the Dazai-kun in this place--beat up Akechi-kun, after he died.
[Just casually admits this because he still doesn't feel bad. But look, they're sharing? This is his way of saying "I totally get it".]
also this is real funny given what was revealed, but it's okay. neither one of them know about what was going to happen when it happened and instead giyuu will just...hm. ]
What was it like being dead from your past experience?
[ why did he have to die again? he feels nothing for ogata but...yams seems like a good sword. ]
[And, why did he have to die here in camp? Hah... that's a long, long story, but he'll tell Giyuu, if Giyuu wants to know. Yasusada never did ask him for permission to drag him into his and Sanji's affairs, after all.]
[Ah. Well, he doesn't mind talking about it. Both times, he thinks, he's deserved the vote he received.]
Okita-kun was at the castle with me. He's my former master. [In case he never said it out loud, even though Yasusada dresses just like him, and speaks of him with immense love and fondness.] Hijikata-fukuchou was there too. In that game, we were connected to another person, as a partner. If one partner died, the other person was at risk of dying as well.
[...]
Fukuchou and Okita-kun were partners, and... Fukuchou was killed. [HE STILL DOESN'T FUCKING KNOW THAT SANJI KILLED HIJIKATA which is hilariously tragic because he sees Sanji as a stand-in Hijikata. Terrible.] We couldn't figure out what happened, and Okita-kun was in danger, and... I panicked, and said something I shouldn't have.
[Tora-kun, is there a reason I shouldn't just kill everyone here right now to make sure Okita-kun is safe?]
I didn't mean it [except, in the deepest part of his heart, he kind of did] but it scared everyone, so they voted for me. I was innocent that time, but... [He shrugs. He gets it.] We didn't have duels, there. But I asked if Okita-kun could be allowed to kill me, and he was.
[Which doesn't sound like a kindness, probably, but to him, it meant the world.
Anyway, he doesn't think Giyuu wants to hear about what it's like to get stabbed in the heart with a rusty dagger, so--]
The other side there was... well, the "other side", really. It was just like the castle, but like we'd stepped through a mirror. And Beauty-kun and Beast-kun were there, too, and they had been for a while. They were able to explain more of what was happening.
[Which is why he'd written to Stephanie to tell her that they didn't have anything like that, so she'd understand that they were really working with... nothing, more or less.]
giyuu wasn't entirely sure what he was expecting to hear when he asked yams about his previous experience and now... the way that yams died back at the castle is not unlike something that he wouldn't have done under different circumstances. it's not hard for certain faces to come across his mind in terms of who he'd stick his neck out for.
anything to protect them. to let himself be killed by someone important to him though? that's a step too far but he can understand it in a way...depending on a person's connection. ]
I see.
[ the other side of a mirror. hmm. ]
...then at the end of that you were returned? Was there some sort of sign?
[Me having to constantly look back at the grimm gy post because I can't remember what I did ten minutes ago let alone two years--]
Well, that place was under Tora-kun and Ryuu-kun's control, kind of. After things started falling apart, Ryuu-kun wrote us a letter and said that she'd use the magic to bring us back, though at the time, it wasn't enough to revive us and let the living go home, too. It wasn't until later that that happened... we had three teams there, too, and all of them needed to be even.
[Which is yet another reason he was willing to kill, here--if it was a similar situation, then blood needed to be spilled regardless of his personal motivations.
He smiles a little, soft and sad.]
Okita-kun and Sanji-kun sacrificed themselves so that we could have our happy ending.
[It was very temporary for both of them, but they'd had no true guarantee that the plan would work. He'd been so terrified that it wouldn't. That, too, probably explains why he's stuck so close to Sanji, in this place.]
