[Ah. Well, he doesn't mind talking about it. Both times, he thinks, he's deserved the vote he received.]
Okita-kun was at the castle with me. He's my former master. [In case he never said it out loud, even though Yasusada dresses just like him, and speaks of him with immense love and fondness.] Hijikata-fukuchou was there too. In that game, we were connected to another person, as a partner. If one partner died, the other person was at risk of dying as well.
[...]
Fukuchou and Okita-kun were partners, and... Fukuchou was killed. [HE STILL DOESN'T FUCKING KNOW THAT SANJI KILLED HIJIKATA which is hilariously tragic because he sees Sanji as a stand-in Hijikata. Terrible.] We couldn't figure out what happened, and Okita-kun was in danger, and... I panicked, and said something I shouldn't have.
[Tora-kun, is there a reason I shouldn't just kill everyone here right now to make sure Okita-kun is safe?]
I didn't mean it [except, in the deepest part of his heart, he kind of did] but it scared everyone, so they voted for me. I was innocent that time, but... [He shrugs. He gets it.] We didn't have duels, there. But I asked if Okita-kun could be allowed to kill me, and he was.
[Which doesn't sound like a kindness, probably, but to him, it meant the world.
Anyway, he doesn't think Giyuu wants to hear about what it's like to get stabbed in the heart with a rusty dagger, so--]
The other side there was... well, the "other side", really. It was just like the castle, but like we'd stepped through a mirror. And Beauty-kun and Beast-kun were there, too, and they had been for a while. They were able to explain more of what was happening.
[Which is why he'd written to Stephanie to tell her that they didn't have anything like that, so she'd understand that they were really working with... nothing, more or less.]
giyuu wasn't entirely sure what he was expecting to hear when he asked yams about his previous experience and now... the way that yams died back at the castle is not unlike something that he wouldn't have done under different circumstances. it's not hard for certain faces to come across his mind in terms of who he'd stick his neck out for.
anything to protect them. to let himself be killed by someone important to him though? that's a step too far but he can understand it in a way...depending on a person's connection. ]
I see.
[ the other side of a mirror. hmm. ]
...then at the end of that you were returned? Was there some sort of sign?
[Me having to constantly look back at the grimm gy post because I can't remember what I did ten minutes ago let alone two years--]
Well, that place was under Tora-kun and Ryuu-kun's control, kind of. After things started falling apart, Ryuu-kun wrote us a letter and said that she'd use the magic to bring us back, though at the time, it wasn't enough to revive us and let the living go home, too. It wasn't until later that that happened... we had three teams there, too, and all of them needed to be even.
[Which is yet another reason he was willing to kill, here--if it was a similar situation, then blood needed to be spilled regardless of his personal motivations.
He smiles a little, soft and sad.]
Okita-kun and Sanji-kun sacrificed themselves so that we could have our happy ending.
[It was very temporary for both of them, but they'd had no true guarantee that the plan would work. He'd been so terrified that it wouldn't. That, too, probably explains why he's stuck so close to Sanji, in this place.]
