It's an unkind question. Flayn bites her lip to keep from answering it. She knows the answer is likely yes, they would have. Ookurikara has sought the truth for all the time that she's known him, and Lili trusts him implicitly. And Tonbokiri... well, he has never once seemed untrustworthy to her.
But it's a knee-jerk reaction she has, to defend Yin Yu. And since he isn't here to be defended, the best she can do is defend his decisions.]
He knew there was little risk. Lili is not someone that anyone here would sacrifice carelessly, which means... he must have believed that you are someone we should not sacrifice carelessly, either.
[What if they hadn't been able to sever the connection? What if they hadn't found anyone else in time? It's a logical thing to think, given that they've never managed to catch two killers in one day before. Did he intend to force Yasusada's hand, in the execution ring? What if Yasusada was forced to fight someone like Flayn, while still tied to Lili?
...He's not sure he believes her, honestly. If Yin Yu hadn't wanted him to be sacrificed carelessly, he wouldn't have taken steps to tie him to someone so vocal, and so sheltered. Yasusada's under no delusions as to the power of popularity, especially here. If Yin Yu had wanted to protect him (which Yasusada wouldn't have allowed anyway), he would have done things differently.
But then, he has very little faith in this group as a whole. Even if he'd been innocent, he fully expected to be condemned for his emotions. History truly tends to repeat itself.
He doesn't want to argue with her too much, though. Yin Yu made his choice, just like Yasusada made his. What's done is done, and the only life truly at risk tomorrow is his own, as it was supposed to be.
...He just wishes Sanji could be there to watch him fight for it.]
She can't agree with that. Lili has contingency after contingency - Flayn has no doubt that she'll survive until the end, so long as no one does anything truly treacherous against her. Her main point of worry is the trials, where they've allowed inconsistent evidence to condemn innocent people before.
She can't think of any way to protect the person who receives the majority vote from an execution.]
...at any rate. You are... going to fight for your life tomorrow, yes?
[After what he's said about needing to save Okita - she can't imagine he won't.]
[Namely, the directors, if they're even capable of dying. Lili, perhaps, because he knows her death would be--well, in unkind terms, more trouble than it'd be worth. And he wouldn't betray Ookurikara's trust like that anyway, not when Ookurikara understands his reasons far better than almost anyone. Someone like Natalie, he wouldn't fight either--there would be no honor in that at all.
...Flayn might have been on that list, if he'd chosen to take down Magnus instead. But now, he can't help thinking that giving her the chance to be back with her partner would be kinder.] But Sanji-kun made me promise that I would, if I could.
[He looks down.]
He was the one who was supposed to save Okita-kun, but since it's just me now...
[...Then he has to try. Within reason, he will try.]
[Gods. Flayn wishes she could say something to comfort him. Her default - we shall save everyone, Okita included - seems like it would ring hollow, however; if he could believe that, then he wouldn't have needed to ensure that either he or Sanji would be on a team that won the game.
...if he could believe that, Yin Yu wouldn't be dead.]
Do your best, tomorrow. That is all anyone can ask.
