I think he's just one of those people that are grouchy no matter what. That's the impression I get from him. Like if it wasn't one thing it'd be another.
He's always been like that... at the Citadel, anyway. I didn't know him before. [Ookurikara is definitely not a Shinsengumi sword.] When he was first summoned, all he ever said was that he didn't want to make any friends.
